Candidate for Bishop 2012

Need Your Help

I don’t just want to be a bishop of the church, I believe together, clergy and lay, with a God given vision and plan we can do better. The church at it’s best is not the church gathered, but the church scattered. Believing God’s Word, empowered by God's spirit, leaving the Lord's House to go into the Lord's world, to make a difference in the Lord’s name.

Strenthening the Local Church

Like Richard Allen, we must remember that the strength of our connectional church, will only be as strong as the strength of our local churches. We must invest more time, more resources and more planning in developing and training pastors, making and sending disciples and ministering and meeting the needs of local churches and communities.

As much as I want to be elected a Bishop in our church, the General Conference must do more than assign and elect Bishops and General Officers, there are many pressing issues that face our church that must be addressed. Issues that we have put off for several quadrenniums, that we continue to talk about but don't face or address. Let’s make this 49th Quadrennial Session of the General Conference the one where we faced and acted on the issues that need to be addressed if we are going to grow and move forward.

Leading up to the General Conference I will be proposing legislation and presenting positions that I believe will enhance our church. I will also be reaching out to colleagues and lay persons to join with me in sponsoring and presenting this legislation and positions. Some of the legislation I will propose has to do with strengthening our local churches, safeguarding our ministry, the future of our colleges and universities, our connectional budget and the administrative work of our church. I will also offer position papers for us to consider.

I also call on the General Conference Commission, specifically the Program Committee of the General Conference to make the Report of the Revisions Committee the Order of the Day beginning the second day of the General Conference. This will ensure that important work of the General Conference gets done. Reports of the General officers and Connectional Departments of the church could come after the Revisions Committee and only address recommendations since delegates have written copies of their reports. Previous General Conferences have seen little, but much needed legislation not acted on because so much time was spent on less important matters. We spend too much time and too much money to get so little done. I believe we can do better.
